School Beat: Latino Parents Are "Unidos y Visibles" in San FranciscoRachel Powell Nortonbyline‚ Jan. 25‚ 2007Editor's note: Today's School Beat is presented in both English and Spanish Saturday, February 3 will be a very important day for Latino parents in the San Francisco Unified School district. On that day, several hundred Latino parents and children (and their community supporters) will gather at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in the Mission District to proudly proclaim themselves "Unidos y Visibles" – ("United and Visible"). Latino Parent Day, the first-ever celebration of Parents for Public Schools' growing Latino Parent Club, will mark progress toward two very important goals: • Acknowledgement by the community and the district leadership that Latinos are an important and valued group within SFUSD; • Giving Latino families tools, knowledge and resources they can use to be involved in the schools and to boost their children's academic achievement. |
