Hillary’s New Strategy: It’s Evening in AmericaRandy Shawbyline‚ Feb. 25‚ 2008"Some would say, let's get everybody together, let's get unified. The sky will open. The light will come down. Celestial choirs will be singing. And everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect." -- Clinton mocking Obama in Rhode Island, Feb. 24 With the media openly questioning her campaign strategy, Hillary Clinton is giving her consultants every opportunity to hit a last minute homerun. At last week’s debate, she threw out the “change you can Xerox” line, and drew boos. On February 23, she pronounced “Shame on Barack Obama” for his having the audacity to issue flyers questioning her health care proposal and her longtime support of NAFTA -- this failed because she is the one who has been attacking Obama on health care, and her praise of NAFTA is amply documented. But Clinton unveiled a strategy yesterday that will likely be talked about for years. Remember Ronald Reagan’s legendary 1984 re-election campaign that announced it was “Morning in America”? Well, Clinton is now insisting -- as the above quote shows -- that Obama’s optimistic and hopeful talk is nonsense. Call it the “Evening in America” strategy, in which Clinton foolishly seeks to win votes by discouraging the electorate. |
