Delegate Math ...Mar. 13‚ 2008To the Editor: A correction to your article, "Primary Season Will Go On Forever Unless Reporters Do Math": The 8-delegate shift in California had nothing to do with the 40,000 crossover ballots added to the count in Los Angeles County. It had to do with counting an additional 800,000 votes across the state. Look carefully at the calculation you cite. The shift came in four places with Clinton losing one and Obama gaining one in each: * one delegate shifted in District 16 in Santa Clara County (this one may still be too close to call if there are any remaining ballots to count), * one delegate shifted in each of Districts 51 and 53 in the San Diego / Imperial County area * one delegate shifted in the statewide at-large vote. The three districts that shifted are not in Los Angeles County. Counting the Los Angeles crossover ballots would not have caused the statewide shift by itself, nor would not counting them have prevented the shift. Richard M.
