SF Chronicle Confirms: Rents Exploding!

Paul Hogarthbyline‚ Apr. 18‚ 2008

Last October, Beyond Chron reported that San Francisco rents are climbing at an alarming rate -- in part because the mortgage crisis has deterred many would-be homebuyers from the real estate market. Yesterday, the Chronicle released some data -- courtesy of the research firm Real Facts. In the past year, rents in the City have jumped by a whopping 14.4% (and 8.8% in the Bay Area) -- way above the rate of inflation, and at a time when we're facing a severe economic downturn. Yet another reason to oppose Proposition 98 on the June ballot to save rent control.
