"The 4th Estate, Middle East..."
by , 2006-07-26
Dear Editor,
I was physically sickened by Senator Feinstein's overt display of Zionism last Sunday, with no regard for the innocent civilians (again!!!) being killed in Lebanon. I wonder if she'd feel the same if, as the result of a treaty, the State of Israel was to be located in the USA. It's only the size of New Jersey after all.
Using the same logic that Jews deserves a homeland in the area because they lived there over 2,000 years ago before the Romans drove them out, then all land in North and South America should be returned to the Native Americans, not just Reservation land, and Australia should be returned to the Aborigines, etc., etc.
The British have been disturbing the area since the Crusades and probably befofe, and in modern times it is they who are really responsible for the current upheaval. Force them to fix it.
Sincerely,
Terrie Frye
Editor,
Unfortunately, there is no longer a 4th Estate or a third column in this country. The press acts in support of government policy (See NYTimes/Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq) Official think-speak through the media is an aspect of the onslaught of basic civil liberties by this Administration. Notice that George Bush, who was basically installed as president without a recount in Florida on the basis of a party line 5-4 vote by our Supreme Court, has already congratulated Calderon for his victory. Notice also that the print media in our country report negatively on Obrador even though it is absolutely clear that there was election fraud that favored the Ruling Party.
More frightening is that this think-speak and double-think has manifested itself in our Congress which is also silent on the Mexican Election and also on Illegal Immigration reform now under the cover of stife in the Middle East. Meanwhile the Congress votes 410-8 in support ot the Israeli Invasion of Lebanon while condemming Hezbollah. We are relying on our Democratic Allies ; Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan heavily in this instance In the crosshairs is the democratically elected President of Iran. Under seige and apparently forgotten by US media is the fact that one third od the democratically elected Palestinian government are under arrest in Israeli jails. The big picture is easy to understand as long as you don't have to rely on the objectivity of our media to see it.. The media has abrogated it's constitutional responsibility to inform our citizenry.
