Dear Mr. Hogarth,

I was alarmed to read on your Web site this morning an article by Sara A. Fox claiming that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's regional library in San Francisco would be closing. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Our library provides the public and EPA staff with an outstanding collection of environmental resources, as well as expert research assistance from professional librarians. While we trimmed our operating hours last January in response to tightening budgets, we continue to offer the same high-quality services to the public Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. We have no plans to close, and we welcome members of the public to make use of our environmental information resources in person, by phone, or via the Web (www.epa.gov/region9/library).

Sincerely,

Sally Seymour
Director, Office of Public Affairs
US EPA Pacific Southwest Region

Randy;

Meskunas ran the San Francisco office of a national non-profit who's sole goal was to do away with public housing (by selling it off to tenants). She is very conservative and very bad for the tenants movement. She attempted to do the very same locally when she was President of the Housing Authority during the Jordan Administration. Yes she knows city government and all the key players, but she is bad for tenants and many other progressive issues. I'm surprised you are ill informed about her.

Editor,

Unarmed? u need to go back to journalism school, u know where they teach u to check your facts. Idress Stelly was armed with a knife and cut a police officer's uniform while threating to kill them. the problem with activists like Monge Irizary is that they spend all their energy on rare police shootings that occur in split seconds almost always involving suspects that contribute to their own deaths with the actions they took. the police are easy targets, particularly in liberal cities like S.F. and N.Y.C. amazingly tho, these so called voices of the community are silent on with the black on black violence that far surpasses the body count of the police. but of course, no need to to tackle that problem when u can get cheap media time abusing cops.
