Fillmore Redevelopment, Missouri Football ...

Dear Randy:

Your article clears the pall of lies told about the vitality of the Fillmore by those who practice the policy of "slash and burn." I would add that few times while sitting atop Alta Plaza Park enjoying the quietness of the area, the clean air, the imposing Saint Dominc's Church, the Japanese Pagoda, and the old General Hospital in the back ground, I couldn't help notice the ugliness of the architecture brought upon the Fillmore district. The smooth curve from the Alta Plaza till the brick-colored General Hospital in the horizon is broken by fast-food-like architecture that denaturalizes and dehumanizes the Fillmore district.

Excellent discussion on the devastation caused by the Redevelopment Agendcy (RDA) in the '60's when they bulldozed the Fillmore and drove out the community. I would just like to remind your concerned contributors and readers that the same situation is occuring today in Bayview-Hunters Point where Lennar, RDA, speculators and developers in collusion with elected officials are in the process of gentrifying the neighborhod and displacing many of those same folks who resettled there after their expulsion from the Fillmore.

Dear Randy,

Thanks for the article and the truths stated therein. Ten years ago I lived in the Fillmore and I also volunteered at some of the activities slated as changing the district to the new "Historical Jazz District." I walked away with the feeling that the folks in charge should pass on their batons to much more qualified and creative thinkers. Even the sign on the Geary Boulevard bridge is flawed

Dear Sir:

Wow, Irvin Muchnick's piece on Missouri was one huge pile of ill-informed garbage. His lack of knowledge, not only about college football, but also about The Border War, certainly qualifies Him to pontificate about them. There were atrocities committed on BOTH sides in The Border War. However, the motives of the "Jayhawkers" had little to do with freeing anyone, & everything to do with lining their own coiffeurs, via pillaging, rape & murder, which included women & children.

Perhaps your writers could do a modicum of research before writing such tripe. Journalism at it's worst ... lazy, sloppy, & erroneous.

Btw, congratulations on taking a cheap shot at the tragic passing of a 19 year-old kid. The entire state was shocked & heart-broken by Aaron's passing. He was a great kid, who wanted nothing more than to be a Missouri Tiger. He is kept on the roster, & His picture & number prominently displayed, out of respect, & as a tribute to Aaron. It's what HIS TEAMMATES wanted, & how they wanted to remember & honor Him. Again, nice cheap shot.

Regards,
Jack Gokin
