Obama's Winning Streak ...

by , 2008-02-15

Dear Randy:

I am buoyed by your optimism about the Democratic campaign and don't argue with your points, especially with Obama adding three more wins yesterday. Hillary's chances to lead outright on election delegates are vanishing quickly. Moreover, she will now reframe her pitch, making her appear desperate and inconsistent. Maybe she'll sideline Bill and run on her own!

And yet what creeps into the back of my mind is who Hillary is -- and your assumption, when abandoned by some superdelegates, she will withdraw. I hope so, but accepting defeat before the Fat Lady sings or losing graciously for the party are hardly Clinton strong suits. Obama needs a clear 100 vote lead to close in my view.

The good news: the strident, seemingly entitled Hillary isn't the campaigner Bill was (nor is he!) and the more people see her, the worse she does. It turns out her historic negatives are real and sustained, checking the upward surge required to win Ohio or Pennsylvania bigtime (and I think she loses Penn.).

Quite the opposite with Prince Charming Obama whose campaign skills combined with inspirational force are marvels to behold.

Plus, if Obama leads McCain by something beyond statistical error by June, then I agree: he's the nominee and only the DNC's scary history of finding ways to blow elections will favor Clinton. I guess I
missed that estabishment variable in your acute analysis!
